Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Natural Preservation Team

2022 - Present

Team Leader

I participated in and led the DMZ Society & DMZ Natural Preservation Team, an organization focused on educating high school students about ecology and environmental conservation. I guided the team through interactive learning experiences by organizing field visits to the DMZ, a unique ecological area near the border of South Korea. As the organizer of the NLCS DMZ Society, I introduced students to the beauty and ecological significance of the DMZ while training them to engage in hands-on research. I led biweekly excavations to teach foundational ecology concepts and assist students in selecting their research topics. Additionally, I collaborated with four ecology professors during seasonal summer and winter camps, collecting and analyzing data on DMZ plant and animal species over a total of seven camps.

DMZ Research: Utricularia tenuicaulis (Bladderwort) habitat and conservation efforts

2023

I led a team in researching the vulnerable Utricularia tenuicaulis (Bladderwort), focusing on data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions with the support of professors. Our research earned second place in the Seoul National University-hosted DMZ Youth Forum for a paper on the environmental factors affecting Bladderwort's habitat. By investigating its habitats in various wetlands, we contributed to conservation efforts by identifying key environmental conditions crucial for its survival.
